Our 30th Annual Trappers Convention

{Schedule}

Come join us for a fun packed weekend!  For your enjoyment and benefit we have filled the weekend with trapping and skinning demos by some of Georgia’s most experienced trappers.  We will have a live trap line, auction, raffle, trap supply dealers and much more.  There will be trap setting and speed setting contest so you can test your skills.  Both Saturday and Sunday mornings will begin with the trap line being run at 6:30 A.M.  We will be serving breakfast, lunch and supper on Saturday. If you have been to a GTA convention in the past you know how much fun we have, if you haven’t, please join us for all the above and much more!  Don’t forget to bring you family and friends.  We look forward to seeing all of you there!

Directions:   

From Uvalda (the north), go 5 miles south on US 221, park sign is on the right, but turn left on Uvalda Landing Road. Then, turn left immediately into campground entrance. Look for signs to Office/Heritage Center.

From Hazlehurst (the south) go 8 miles north on US 221, look for sign on the right, and turn right onto Uvalda Landing Road. Then, take an immediate left and follow campground signs to the Office/Heritage Center. After 5PM, blow horn at the gate of campground, and the park host will open gate.

 

 Look for the GTA signs.  Have a safe trip.

Georgia Trappers Association Scholarship Program
APPLICATION

The Georgia Trappers Association scholarship program offers an annual scholarship of $500 - $1000 to assist qualified students who are resident’s of the state of Georgia and are pursuing a degree in game biology or a related field of study at an accredited institution of learning. Scholarship awards may be used only for tuition, educational fees, books and supplies.

The Georgia Trappers Association [GTA] would like to welcome you to our home on the web. We hope your visit is pleasant and informative.

The GTA is a non-profit organization

We are interested in promoting the education and growth of hunting, fishing, and trapping while maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship. We want to encourage public conservation and the protection, restoration and management of water, wildlife, forest and fields. We strive to cooperate with county, state, federal and private agencies having the responsibilities for wildlife and land management.


If you haven't renewed your membership recently, now is a good time. Trappers all over the country are facing extinction and Georgia is no exception. We need the support of everyone to keep trapping a viable outdoor activity for the future. Many states are losing their trapping rights a little at the time. Georgia could be next if we don't pay attention to our sport. Cost is $25.00.

Myth vs. Fact
Myth: Furbearers are being trapped to extinction.

Fact: Due to the huge successes of furbearer management in this century, and in spite of declining habitat, furbearers are abundant. No endangered species are threatened by trapping.
