The Southeaster Regional Convention was a success !
Thanks for coming out.

I wanted to take time out and thank everybody that was able to go to the 7th Annual Southeastern National Trapping Convention in Calhoun.  GTA Fleshing DayIt was a great time to meet many trappers from around the area as well as from other parts of the country.  Special thanks to the many workers that came and helped out with the events and getting everything ready for the show.  Chris Johnson deserves a pat on the back for the hard work he put in and the young men that helped him, we are forever grateful for your contribution as well.  As always when there is a GTA event people show up and pitch in to make things work.  That is what makes being a part of this organization so nice.  Each of you that worked is an example of the accomplishments we can make by pulling together. With help from our friends in Tennessee the convention was a success, two great groups of trappers working for a common goal.   It was encouraging to see so much fur come in to be sent to NAFA to auction.  Thanks to Jim and Heather Childress for coming down to pick it up and also offer to come this coming year to make pickups in Georgia.  As many of you have heard me say that we have a lot of people out there trapping game but until they actually flesh, stretch and dry there fur to sell they are just catchers.  We had our spring event at Jerry Lee’s and several people came to put up fur.  Out of this Randy Zerwig was one of the people who came to help and from it he went home and put up some of the best fur I think I have ever seen put up by a first time flesher.  It is by sharing the knowledge we have with others that we become a stronger organization.  If you are interested in learning how to put up fur let us know so we can try and have some demos or training events in the future.   It looks like we will be having our convention this year in Hazlehurst Ga. down on the river.  The GeorgiaTrappers are looking at having a River Clean-up this year if you are interested give me or Rusty Johnson a call so we can get your name on the list.  It would be great if we could do it in several locations around the state or maybe coordinate with some local organizations to join in such as the FFA.  Remember to share trapping with a young person so we can pass on the time honored tradition of Trapping in Georgia.  Until next time God Bless our troops and each of you!

The Georgia Trappers Association [GTA] would like to welcome you to our home on the web. We hope your visit is pleasant and informative.

The GTA is a non-profit organization

We are interested in promoting the education and growth of hunting, fishing, and trapping while maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship. We want to encourage public conservation and the protection, restoration and management of water, wildlife, forest and fields. We strive to cooperate with county, state, federal and private agencies having the responsibilities for wildlife and land management.

If you haven't renewed your membership recently, now is a good time. Trappers all over the country are facing extinction and Georgia is no exception. We need the support of everyone to keep trapping a viable outdoor activity for the future. Many states are losing their trapping rights a little at the time. Georgia could be next if we don't pay attention to our sport. Cost is $25.00.

Myth vs. Fact
Myth: Furbearers are being trapped to extinction.

Fact: Due to the huge successes of furbearer management in this century, and in spite of declining habitat, furbearers are abundant. No endangered species are threatened by trapping.
